5 Things to learn from FIFA World Cup 2018

Despite football, not being the best sport to me, I started playing it after reaching to Cl.1. It was when I understood what house division at school meant. And only after reaching to Cl.2, I along with friends started being more competitive and started playing football matches in each games period. Blue and Yellow House would combine to play against Red and Green. At the same time only, one of our new friends in the class taught us the slogan- " East to west Mechi and Mahakali House (our house's name) are the best" and we chanted wholeheartedly. Then when, I reached Cl.4, for the 1st time in my life I watched World Cup where Germany and Brazil played against each other in the finals. And eventually, Germany won my heart since then.

The World Cup created such a huge impact in my life, we then after would get divided ourselves into different groups and named different countries and organized mini tournaments in the area. The amount collected would be as highest of Rs. 5 only per person .However, later I discontinued playing football at school,  as I was more fond of other sports. Not to deny for the fact that my friends were excellent footballers and I stood just to accompany them and fill the squad. But World Cup never ceased to please me.

It was finally in the year 2014 when Germany won the World Cup trophy and I couldn't imagine how it felt like to see that your favourite team lift the trophy. The feeling was surreal and very hard to contemplate. With the head held high, World Cup came back after 4 years again. Germany fan, here being more confident this year. But who'd understand that every dog has its day and one needs to be prepared for unexpected happenings. World Cup 2018 turned out to be a tremendous surprise, hard to digest for many. Together it came up with a lot of lessons this year, not only to me, but to the people all round the globe. Let's see a few of them.

  1.    Never underestimate the power of common man:
Ok, maybe there was the history or trend that each world cup winners were ousted from preliminary rounds and Germany fell into the same trap too. But had anyone ever imagined that the countries considered underdogs could be heavier to powerful countries? Either these countries lost the matches or had to draw several matches. There was not even a single match which didn't feel any less than final match. So, it is very essential for every one of us to never embarrass any one for what their past had been and for those oppressed to never lose hope but rather keep fighting for excellence till the end.
  2. Time Supremacy:
Toni Kroos' late goal helped Germany lead a victory
It is very evident that we keep wasting so much of time when we have and later exaggerate for not having enough time. Or, we are never satisfied with the time allocated to us. Our natural tendency to ask for extension is very frequent. This generally happens in each student's life. There were matches where most of the countries scored the winning or drawing goal at 90+ minutes. They kept trying because they believed in them that they could score. Like this, we students, should always be very accepting to the time allocated to us. During exams, we find more comfort in giving up rather than trying at least to memorize the chapters we find easy. At the end, questions get asked from the easier portions, and we only end up screwing the same too.
  3.    Beauty doesn't lie in appearance. nor does it lie in the post one holds:                                              Most of the dignitaries come to the stadium, take their honourable seat and
President of Croatia cheering for her national football team.
cheer for their fellow countrymen. But did anyone of you notice the President of Croatia? Madam President felt no urge to board through business class, dress decent and take the coveted seat to watch the match. She like every other fellow citizen wore their national team's jersey and chose to enjoy every second of the match from the ordinary seat. Now, this is what I called the true happiness and an inner peace. Hats off to her for her endurance, unlike President of Nepal who chooses luxury, more than any queens in the world, long Baggi rides just to attend a ceremony keeping thousands of fellow citizens at halt during their emergency hours. Also salute for her warm shake of hands and exchange of hugs to the players, coaches and etc of both nations. What a delightful portray of love, peace and harmony.
  4.  Respect for environment and public properties:
Senegalese fans gather to pick up all the wastage after the match ended.

Japanese fans' decency of cleaning the stadium after the end of match.

Sometimes, I wonder humans are more of a destroyer than a creator.  We tend to forget our accountability towards use of other's belongings. It's hard to spread equal love to all the things around. Like there's a thought in Nepali, We spit on the plate where the food is served. We are too quick to vandalize the public properties. But post match when Japanese, Senegalese and many fans collected the garbage that were thrown haphazardly; everybody around the globe was shook. This clearly symbolizes true human spirit and generousity to environment and public resources.
  5. Karma is watching you:

Anyone remembers the 2010 World Cup when Frank Lampard's goal was disallowed by referee ? Since then, the use of technology came more into use to ensure more transparency and fairness in the decision making of referees. This year VAR played a vicious role to keep players under scrutiny, cut off all insecurities and depicted a clear picture of the unacceptable acts kept at a loop. How many penalties or freekicks would have been awarded to Neymar otherwise?

Thus, maybe we should all note that sometimes speed and speed of thought are so important, and it pays is to be more positive.  Strategies might help us win games, but perseverance and honesty help us win the trophies and hearts.
